Xenonman Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Had an argument with a toyota people carrier shed whilst on a country road. The guy came right over and smashed my mirror glass, he hit it with some force but came off the worst as his mirror housing was smashed to pieces, in the end the agreement was that we pay for our own damage, rather than getting insurance involved. Is it possible to buy the heated glass as a seperate part because that is all that is damaged. A green scuff was left on the silver housing but that came off easily with a bit of T-CUT. Well at least I now know that the galaxy mirror housing is at the least, very robust. Quote

Xenonman Posted March 14, 2004 Author Report Posted March 14, 2004 They don't seem to do Ford parts, or are the Alhambra and Sharan mirrors the same as the 2003 galaxy, i thought they were slightly different? Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 ah! the joys of having a new shaped car, the lack of aftermarket spares for it  try a local motorist store and see if the part numbers for the galaxy and sharan match! Quote
Dally Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 New model Galaxy mirrors are different from Sharan/Alhambra. Replacement glass will not, therefore, fit. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Cant say I look that closely to notice the difference's in mirror shapes! try....... http://www.emgford.co.uk/parts.html# they have an online Parts Enquiry Form Quote
Xenonman Posted March 15, 2004 Author Report Posted March 15, 2004 Got a new mirror lens today from the ford dealer, it was Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Not being an connoisseur of Galaxy wing mirrors has the shape/design changed from the MK1 and MK2 ? and was the MK1 the same as the VW Sharan or Alhambra's? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Don't hold me to this, but from what I've read, the Mk1 mirrors are the same for Ford, Seat and VW whereas Mk2 Seat and VW are the same (but different from Mk1) but Ford is different. I don't know of Ford Mk1 is same as Ford Mk2. Anyone working in a Ford Parts Dept able to provide the definitive answer? Quote
seatkid Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Before 1998 the mirrors were the same. During 1998 (Still Mk 1) VW and Seat changed to a smaller Golf type design. The Fords have always been the same throughout... Quote
Richmond Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I was a little worried as other posts on the forum mentioned the mirror and housing as being a complete unit. This is not the case as each part is available seperately. What is a single unit (according to my Ford dealer) is the mirror housing and the mounting arm; it costs about Quote
Mussey1 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Just some more useless info...the current shape 'London Taxis' use Galaxy mirrors. Not really that interesting I know, but it may be a useful talking point on a blind date etc... I'll just get my coat!! Mussey1. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I'll just get my coat!! Mussey1. Coat? is that an anorak by any chance? ;) Quote
Mussey1 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Nimrod, You're probably right!! Mind you there must be a bit of an anorak in all of us who use this site!!! I'm off now to do some train spotting and then to the airport to take down some aircraft numbers. Might even treat myself to a new anorak this weekend!! Cheers!! Mussey1. Quote
italiastar Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I had my Spacewagon mirror broken in France a few years ago - No problem I thought - go to Le Mitsubishi dealer. First the good news - no need to buy the complete unit they could supply the actual mirror for around Quote
